A.I.M. (Art Illuminates Mankind)

The organization AIM (Art Illuminates Mankind) seeks “sustainable social development,” the protection of human rights, and promotions in the interest of “the poor and underprivileged sections of society.” The organization was established in 2003 with a focus on folk and tribal culture and art. This includes traditional embroidery (such as Kantha), music, painting, and dance. The organization promotes the arts inherit to West Bengal with various forms of documentation, exhibitions, fairs, and festivals.

The members of AIM guided us through parts of rural West Bengal including the Birbhum District and Santiniketan. They introduced us to various Kantha embroiderers and small businesses that they had contact with.
